National Puerto Rican Day Parade Rising Stars Challenge, 3:00PM – 5:00PM, Winners from the 2015 NPRDP Scholarship Competition compete in the final challenge, where one young lady and one young man will be crowned Prince and Princess of the 2015 National Puerto Rican Day Parade. Categories include interviewing skills and dressing for success. Macy’s, Mall at Bay Plaza, 200 Baychester Avenue,
Bronx. FREE. Open to the public.

June 7 – Sunday
National Puerto Rican Day Parade Annual Mass, 4:00PM, The traditional Catholic Mass that marks the start of “National Puerto Rican Day Parade Week in New York”. This year NPRDP celebrates a “Misa Jíbara”, with music provided by the Tuna Mayagüezana. St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Fifth Avenue, Between 50th and 51st Streets, New York, Open to the Public. RELIGIOUS CEREMONY.

June 6 and 7 – Saturday and Sunday
THE RED ROSE – In Concert, featuring DANNY RIVERA! Saturday at 8PM and Sunday at 3PM. The 10th Anniversary performance of Pregones Theater’s THE RED ROSE. This award-winning musical is based on the life and times of Puerto Rican writer and activist JESUS COLON. The story and songs show Colón’s personal journey from stowaway migrant to public figure, and culminates in his historic face-off with FBI undercover agent Mildred Blauvelt before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1959. La Hoja – Renewing the Puerto Rican guitarist-composer tradition, Saturday at 5 pm and Sunday at 7 pm. A special concert of guitar and voice at the National Opera Center featuring new works by Josué Pérez alongside Borinquen’s favorites. Upcoming Puerto Rican tenor Carlos Feliciano will join guitar duo Lisa y Josué for this concert at the National Opera Center. 330 Seventh Ave, NYC, Subway: #1 train to 28th St. For reservations: 212-243-5768 or via email: lsflamenco@gmail.com

Sueño, Shakespeare with Sabor Latino, Unique collaboration of Teatro SEA, Teatro LATEA, and the Clemente. With alternating performances in English and Spanish, Sueño/A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a family friendly production, infused with live music, puppets, and more. Bring a chair or picnic blanket to La Plaza at The Clemente (entrance at 114 Norfolk Street) to kick off the summer season of outdoor events. Free event, All Performances at 8pm

La Marqueta Retoña Presents Vendy Plaza, 12 pm to 6 pm at La Marqueta, Park Avenue and East 115th Street. Enjoy a fun afternoon of crafts, music, drinks, and great food from local artisans and Vendy Award Finalists! Vendy Plaza is free and open to the public.
